Hot Stones Massage

Hot Stones Massage has to be one of the most relaxing therapeutic massages available. For hundreds of years, hot stone massage has been used by many different cultures and modern-day therapists apply the same techniques for a wonderfully relaxing massage designed to work on muscle tension at the deepest level.

During the hot stone massage treatment, smooth, basaltic (volcanic) rocks that have been heated in water are used to perform the body massage. The heat of the stones penetrates deep into the muscle tissue allowing the muscles to relax 4-5 times quicker than in a standard body massage, easing muscle tension and revitalising the muscle tissue by increasing blood circulation.
The deep relaxation and increased blood flow to the areas being worked not only accelerates any healing processes but also creates a state of deep mental relaxation.

The combination of relaxing warmth is thought to encourage the body to detox and heal, increasing lymph flow and helping to flush out waste. The body becomes relaxed in a much shorter space of time.
-
The benefits of a Hot Stones Massage include:
-
Improve your circulation
-
Increased lymphatic drainage (removal of toxin removal)
-
Improved blood flow to tissues
-
Reduces muscular tension
-
Relieves aches and pains
-
Reduces stress and anxiety
-
Produces a deep relaxation
-

Hot stones massage may not be suitable for everyone and certain medical conditions may prevent this treatment. A consultation will be carried out before your first treatment which enables me to ensure that hot stone massage is suitable for you.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a form of natural, holistic therapy based on the discovery that there are points on the feet and hands, which correspond to organs, systems and structures within the entire body. This corresponding relationship is called a ‘reflex’. A reflex is when a stimulation, at one point brings about a response in another point or area. In reflexology, by using special pressure techniques to stimulate the points on the feet and hands imbalances in the tissues, organs and systems of the body can be both detected and effectively treated to restore balance and well-being.

Reflexology works on the principle that the whole body, from head to toe, is connected. This connection is represented by ten longitudinal zones, developed by Dr William Fitzgerald. These zones run front to back, head to toe throughout the body and are most easily accessible via the feet By manipulating a particular area of the foot, the rest of the organs in that zone will feel a positive benefit. In a sense it is like a messaging service - when specific pressure is applied to a section of the foot, this sends a positive message along the zone. For example, working the heart area of the foot will release blocked energy, not only stimulating the heart but also all the other organs and body parts in the heart's zone. Each part of the foot is a different 'reflex area' which connects to a particular part of the body. Reflexologists use their thumbs and fingers to look for areas of tenderness in the reflexes, reading these as a signal that there is a problem in the corresponding part of the body and working that reflex accordingly. Some also look for crystal deposits (a granular texture under the surface of the skin) as proof of a problem area and work the reflexes to remove the build-up of crystals.
The Aims and Indications of Reflexology:
Main effects of reflexology
• Total relaxation
• Increase circulation
• Increase oxygen levels within the blood stream
• Helps with the effective removal of toxins
• Aids the body to cleanse itself of toxins
• Aids the body to heal itself
What are its benefits?
• It relieves stress and tension and has a deeply relaxing effect: 75% of disease is estimated to be stress- related
• In order to function, the body needs energy in the form of oxygen and nutrients which are circulated in the blood. As reflexology improves blood circulation, it thus increases the efficiency of all organs and cells
• It helps release trapped nervous energy and improves neural efficiency; approximately 7000 nerves are stimulated by reflexology massage
• It improves waste removal and elimination
• it activates the body's self-healing.

This relaxing treatment can bring relief to a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, including anxiety, stress, tension, muscular aches and pains, back and joint pain, circulatory and lymphatic problems and digestive, skin, respiratory, menstrual and even hormonal disorders.
It might be beneficial to you during a one hour treatment to combine therapies with reflexology with a back, neck and shoulder massage, however we can discuss this during your consultation.
I will be using the reflexology technique from Eunice Ingham
Treatment time 60 mins (with a 20 minute consultation on your First session)

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, rhythmic style of massage that uses precise rhythm and pressure to open the initial lymphatics and stimulate lymph vessel contraction to reduce edema. MLD is a specialized massage techniques that gently assists the lymphatic system in maintaining the body’s fluid balance, blood circulation, and immune mechanisms. The system’s network of vessels and nodes contains lymph, a mixture of water, proteins, immune system components, waste products, and other remnants of cell metabolism. Lymph nodes, which filter out the debris, are found throughout the body, with especially large groups of them in the neck, armpits, and groin. These major collections of lymph nodes ensure that the lymph passes through as many nodes as possible before it returns to the circulatory system.

During a lymph drainage massage, a series of gliding, compressing, stretching, and cupping motions over the client’s body. The light rhythmic movements, applied without massage oil, stimulate the lymphatic system without compressing the vessels – allowing lymph to move easily through the tissues and lymph nodes. MLD follows a specific sequence over the body so lymph are not trapped anywhere, making sure every area is treated with care.

How does Manual Lymphatic Drainage MLD differ from other massages?
When performing MLD the therapist moves the client’s skin in different directions: Lengthwise, horizontally and diagonally. MLD is very relaxing. The body’s parasympathetic action is stimulated. The heart rate is slowed, breathing relaxes, and muscles relax. It is a very gentle and strictly placed. It does not use long strokes, heavy pressure, pain or discomfort. The massage (Using the Vodder Techniques) uses very light pressure and long, gentle, rhythmic strokes to increase the flow of lymph and reduce toxins in your body.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage benefits:
• Help reduce water retention,
• In conjunction with an eating and exercise programme, it may boost weight loss, as improving the lymphatic system will improve your metabolic rate, which helps you burn calories more efficiently.
• Speeding healing after cosmetic surgery
• Cancer Patients with Lymphoedema/Oedema
• Patients with Primary Lymphoeadema/Oedem
• Lipoedema
• Effective for pain relief, digestive problems, hormonal imbalances, skin conditions (such as acne and rosacea), cellulite, allergies, headaches,
• Detoxification, jet lag, general stress reduction.
• Helps to improve mood and combat anxiety – It may reduce anxiety and depression.
• Boosts body’s filtration system.
• Boosting the immune system
• Sport Injuries
• Following on from cosmetic surgery to reduce swelling and flush by products of anaesthesia out of the body.
• Pain Management
• May increase energy - Any kind of massage helps to stimulate the body’s circulation, ensuring that blood pumps around the body with greater vigour. The better your circulation, the more energy you can expect to have and the more effectively your organs will function, particularly regarding the elimination of toxins.

Thermal Auricular Therapy
Ear Candling is also known as 'Hopi ear candling'
Ear candles are an ancient, mild and natural therapy and have been used by the Native American Indian for many years.
The Hopi candle is not a candle as such, but a hollow tube made out of cotton flax.

The candle is placed over the ear orifice and ignited. It is only allowed to burn to within 4 inches of the end of the candle. As it burns it produces a gentle local heat. The warm air combined with the oil and herbs soften the wax and draw it into the base of the candle. The candle is then removed and the ear and surrounding area is then massaged. The treatment is repeated on the other ear and then a complete facial massage is carried out, paying particular attention to the sinus areas.
The treatment is very gentle and relaxing.
Ear candles can help with:
-
Headache relief.
-
Release of a build up of pressure in the ear.
-
Release of a build up of ear wax.
-
Relief of sinus problems
-
Relief from tinnitus, Menieres disease and ‘swimmers ear’.
-
Helps snoring problems.
-
Relief for sufferers of glue ear, rhinitis, colds and migraines.
-
Reduce stress and tension
